CREATE & MANAGE DATA
OUR PROJECTS
The Research Data Management team at the UK Data Archive is actively involved in developing knowledge, guidance and capacity building in managing and sharing data, primarily for the social sciences.
Our team undertakes a range of R&D projects on research data management support and training for researchers and research centres, through grants from the ESRC and JISC.
-
Our Data Management Planning project (DMP-ESRC) is supported by JISC under the Managing Research Data Programme, which aims to support good data management and sharing for the benefit of UK Higher Education and Research. We are working with ESRC Research Centres and Programmes to implement data management planning, enable effective data management practices and increase individual and institutional data management and sharing capacity in these research 'hubs'.
-
The Data Management Training project is funded by ESRC as part of the Researcher Development Initiative, which supports a range of advanced and specialist training and development activities for social scientists. This project provides a programme of focused training for researchers and researcher support staff on the key issues pertinent to managing and sharing social science data.
-
Keeping Research Data Safe 2, known as KRDS2, was a survey of the costs of digital preservation, funded by JISC in 2009. The UK Data Archive co-authored the report and provided a case study. The responses covered research data archives or cultural heritage collections in a broad area of research disciplines including the arts and humanities, social sciences, and physical and biological sciences.
-
The Rural Economy and Land Use Programme (Relu) Data Support Service (DSS), initially funded as a pilot project in 2005, is now an operational service within the Relu Programme, which is funded by ESRC, NERC and BBSRC. Relu-DSS supports over 30 large scale research projects in the programme, helping researchers to plan, implement and carry out high quality data management to ensure that research data can be shared at the end of the research projects.
-
The Research Data @Essex project, funded under the JISC Managing Research Data 2 Programme, will pilot a research data management infrastructure for the University of Essex. It will build on the Archive's existing work with JISC and ESRC on managing and sharing data.
