HOW WE CURATE DATA

TRUSTED DIGITAL REPOSITORIES

OVERVIEW

A trusted digital repository has a mission to provide reliable, long-term access to managed digital resources both now and in the future. The UK Data Archive is at the forefront in defining, meeting and supporting the adoption of appropriate and universal standards.

  • Trust has always been critical to our relationships with depositors and users but it has
increasingly become a more formal issue as standards and best practices emerge; trust is a key theme in digital preservation.

TRUST IN DATA ARCHIVES: A SOCIAL SCIENCE PERSPECTIVE
  • Any organisation which provides access to data over a long period of time should be fully trusted only with a public statement describing the practices they follow and the provenance of data they provide. Standards of trust are critical.

STANDARDS OF TRUST: HOW DO YOU KNOW AN ARCHIVE IS TRUSTWORTHY
  • We support the emerging integrated framework being put in place for auditing and certifying digital repositories. This consists of three standards of trust.
