This is a workshop about data management and documentation for researchers in the social sciences. It explains how data can be properly managed from early on in research. The importance and benefits of good data management will be discussed, with a view to optimising data sharing.

Topics covered will include the data lifecycle, research ethics (consent, anonymisation and confidentiality), data formats, describing and documenting data, data security and data management planning; as they apply to social science research and to data sharing. Each topic will include presentations and practical, hands-on exercises and discussion based on real-case examples (quantitative and qualitative data examples).

The workshop is organised by the Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa.
