Lord Phillips visit

Article dated: 19-Jun-09

On 1 May the UKDA Director welcomed Lord Phillips, Chancellor of the University of Essex since 2003, on a visit to the Archive. Lord Phillips spent an hour viewing displays of all the main data services provided by UKDA, talking to staff and viewing an interactive session of the Nesstar tool exploring data from the British Crime Survey. A lawyer by training, Lord Phillips is a local history enthusiast and perhaps the most unexpected aspect of his visit was his discovery that one of his potential ancestors, Isobel Phillips born in Paddington in the mid-nineteenth century, was listed in the Census exhibit.
