Do you use NVivo?

A team from the UK Data Archive has joined colleagues at the University of Edinburgh to release an online module designed to teach researchers and students, using the NVivo 9 application, to analyse qualitative data with a special focus on the pre- and post-analysis stages.

Grounded in the principles of good data management, the self-study exercise is designed to complement the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science postgraduate course 'Core Qualitative Data Analysis for Social Research', and other similar courses in research design, qualitative data analysis and data collection.

The module consists of three units:

  • preparing your qualitative data
  • data management issues when working in NVivo
  • managing your data during post-analysis

The exercise was developed as part of the JISC-funded MANTRA project, which produced several online learning modules designed to share best practice in managing and sharing research data.
