DATA STORAGE, BACK-UP, AND SECURITY

While the fine details of data management is project-specific, there are some general principles which relate to data storage and security that are pertinent to all research projects creating data. These fall into three general categories:

• backing up data
• ensuring suitable data storage
• security and controlled access to data

With new government guidelines on the handling of data, the UKDA has also prepared a brief guide to encrypting data for transmission.
