We have developed, refined and published our approaches to data governance and access for over 50 years.
Where possible, we make our published policies and procedures available to all.
The UK Data Service's Secure Lab - originally founded in 2010 as the Secure Data Service - enables data linkage and research access to controlled data in a secure environment. Researchers can apply to use this service and gain access to business, social and economic microdata derived from surveys, and administrative data that are too detailed, sensitive or confidential to be made available under a standard End User Licence or Special Licence.
Leading-edge technology, licensing, legal frameworks, and strict security policies and penalties mean the Secure Lab is a trusted partner to provide research access to the Office for National Statistics controlled data.
